Boo[k]yah!

Let's be clear: This post's title is a clever mashup of the word "book" and the word "booyah." Clever indeed.

If you read my first post in eight thousand centuries-- suitably titled, Hi WTF Has Happened In The Last Year-- then you already know I began writing a book during the Spring of 2012.

(If you didn't read my first post in eight thousand centuries, go ahead and reread the bold portion of the previous sentence. Now we're all up to speed!)

I didn't elaborate too much beyond that (air of mystery and all that jazz...), but now, without any further ado whatsoever, which I'm sure, if you know me, you know is quite the feat! Can you believe some describe me as verbose, as if it's a fault, imagine that! Honestly, I can think of so many worse habits or traits, for instance:

  • chewing on cuticles (worse than biting nails, eesh!)
  • belching unnecessarily
  • hocking up one's nasty phlegm and then spitting it out on the sidewalk (or elsewhere...)
  • racism
  • harming puppies
  • harming kittens

I can think of more, I'm sure, but that last one got me particularly misty-eyed. I love kittens, and big old grown cats, too! I hate to think of them being harmed. They're perfect little creatures, oh how I love them, they're just the best, yay kittens, yay big old grown cats! Three cheers for felines! Meow! Meow! Meow!

Also, racism sucks, too. A lot!

Moving along. Now, without any further ado! Book stuff!

Here's the skinny: back in Spring of 2012, my boss / professional mentor and I embarked on a super magical, somewhat stressful, but in the end, highly rewarding journey together-- co-writing a book about social media community management.

Fancy term but I know you actually know what that bold term means. You go on Facebook, right? Or Twitter? Or YouTube? In the very least, you likely have heard of these things.

So, you know when you post on a company's page or tweet at a brand (etc.), you know when the company responds to you? The person behind the logo who responds is that brand's community manager (and the sites like Facebook and Twitter and YouTube are considered social media sites / channels / platforms). See? You know. You're an expert! You should write a book! I did it, it's fun!

Anyway, this book is written as a super ultimate resource for community managers, and the people who hire them.

It's definitely a business book, and won't likely be considered for Oprah's famous OMG-everyone-must-read-this list. That said, I believe it will be a supremely valuable resource for many sorts of companies. It's chockfull of universal tips, tactics, tools, case studies, and much more.

No one paid me to say that. Seriously! I don't think.

OKAY! Congratulations! You've made it this far into the post, you deserve a treat! Photo time!

(This also will serve those who, in the very unlikely case, made it this far into the post and somehow don't believe I actually wrote a book, here is photographic proof. I wrote a book, a real book, with pages, binding, the works! And it even has my name on it! And a shnazzy headshot!)

And here's another photo of me, holding the book!

^_^

Alright, well that's all I've got for now. Still definitely sick (which you know all about, if you read the post before this), but whatever. You won't hear me complaining about soup and sweatpants and slippers and cat naps and naps with cats (unless this damn thing hangs around for, like, a week or something ridiculous like that). Fingers crossed. And immediately Purell®-ed.

Until we meet again!

  2. @Holly - Thank you! I actually did not draw the cover... but I got to pick it out of a line-up. So there's that!

  3. Today I flung some electronic invisible monies at some electronic invisible Amazons, and will soon have in my hands a hopefully-visible copy of your thankfully-analog book. As you know, I'm not in your line of work, but as you also know, the field in which you and your delightful cohorts play fascinates me to no end. And it's not very often I'm able to say I've noogied a published author, so there's that. ;)

Simply saying "congratulations" or "way to go" or "I'm proud of you" seems trite and unworthy. Nonetheless, for the time being, it'll have to suffice. Keep on seizing the day, buddy.
